Three Hummingbirds - Original Painting
Three Hummingbirds
Acrylic and oil pastel on canvas • 24 × 36 in.
The story behind Three Hummingbirds is very close to my heart. I often call my three children my "little hummingbirds." They're endlessly curious, full of energy, and always hovering nearby. It's beautiful, exhausting, and one of the greatest joys of my life. After getting a tattoo of three hummingbirds to represent them, I knew I wanted to create a painting that captured that same feeling.
Built over many layers of acrylic paint and finished with expressive oil pastel details, Three Hummingbirds is a celebration of the beautiful chaos of motherhood. It represents love that is constant, close, and sometimes overwhelming - but always worth it.
Like many creative journeys, this painting didn't come together easily. I almost abandoned it after the first layers because it wasn't becoming what I had envisioned. Returning to it with fresh eyes and a little courage completely transformed it into the piece you see today - a reminder that some of the most meaningful things simply take time.
Whether it reminds you of your own children, someone you hold close, or the beauty of persistence, I hope this painting brings warmth, joy, and a sense of home wherever it hangs.
